Strengthening Sport

Advocacy on behalf of Edmonton sport organizations is a primary purpose of the Edmonton Sport Council.

In October of 2002, the ESC appeared before, and submitted recommendations which would benefit sport to, the MLA Review Committee on Charitable Gaming Licensing Eligibility and Use of Proceeds.  Support for the ESC submission was expressed by sport organizations in Edmonton and across Alberta.

Since that time, the ESC contacted the MLA Review Committee several times to inform it of new relevant decisions in Canada and beyond which reinforced our submission.  Recently, the Alberta government accepted 41 of the Committee's recommendations and the Alberta Gaming and Liquor Commission (AGLC) had updated its charitable gaming policies.

At this time the ESC is pleased to present a summary of the original proposed policy, our submission and the new AGLC policy which demonstrate our impact.
