Being active is an important part of my daily life (most days)! With two young kids, regular physical activity helps me to stay fit so that I can keep up with them. This winter we have made the most of our time outdoors by skating at Victoria Oval and Hawrelak Park, tobogganing at our local hill, and walking to our local coffee shops and bakeries for coffee and hot chocolate (special shout out to La Boule and Ace Coffee for giving us a destination!!).
Every weekend, I also make time to go for walks in the river valley with my husband. This is my favorite time of the week, when we can catch up, get some exercise, and enjoy some peaceful time on our own. I’m always amazed at how quickly it feels like you are out in the middle of a nowhere, surrounded by nature.
We recently saw a couple of pileated woodpeckers in the same spot on two different days and this has become a highlight as we look for them each walk. I really appreciate living in a part of the world that has four seasons and by walking the same route all year, it’s amazing to notice the changes that occur. I also really appreciate living in a city like Edmonton that values physical activity. With the Live Activity Strategy, the City has shown its commitment to helping Edmontonians be active - the well-maintained trails in the river valley (regardless of the weather conditions) are a great example of this in action!
With so much time spent at home, all together this past year, I really appreciate how good it feels to get outside and start the day with some exercise.
