At the Nellie McClung program, we always find a way to stay active and have fun!  We understand the importance of staying healthy for both our physical and mental health. We all know that Phys Ed class is a core subject that all of us do at least three times a week. To some people it’s a drag, but us Nellies would say otherwise!

In our regular PE class, we get the opportunity to play sports like volleyball and basketball. These games allow us to strategize, develop teamwork and to have fun. In addition, we play a variety of games and other activities. This year we are really excited to be able to use our new fitness room. We have just received a bunch of new fitness equipment that we will be able to learn about and use.

For students who are really interested in a particular sport, we offer team sports for volleyball, badminton, track and field, and basketball. In addition to regular practices to build our skills, we face other schools in games and tournaments. Through these experiences, students learn about the importance of sportsmanship and teamwork.

Sometimes, we need a break from the same scenery, so we do tons of special activities and field trips. In the past we have done gymnastics at Ortona, ice skating, and swimming, just to name a few. Each year, Nellie McClung students get the opportunity to participate in Curriculum Enrichment and Extension Days (CEEDS). One of the activities that is always popular for CEEDS is skiing and snowboarding at Rabbit Hill. Learning new ways to be active in alternative environments teaches students that keeping active doesn't always look like going to a gym to work out.

Many of our Nellie students participate in additional activities in the community that help them stay active. Currently we have students who participate in the Cadet Program, competitive diving, water polo, soccer and Kendo.
